Astrophysics: Decoding the Cosmos

Astrophysics: Decoding the Cosmos is a new textbook by Dr. Judith Irwin for upper-year physics students. The book was published by Wiley in June 2007. While Wiley does offer companion websites for its authors, Dr. Irwin wanted something with a bit more flair and more options for customization.

Doing a website around the subject of astrophysics is a designer's dream - it's hard not to make something look amazing when the concept is space, galexies and nebulae. The website's colours were informed by the textbook's graphic design, and the site structure is simple, easy to update and standards-compliant.

Dr. Irwin also wanted a form where course instructors could submit problem sets and solutions for their students to use for extra study. This was implemented using an open-source email web form (couresty of Stadtaus.com), which includes spam filtering and safe attachment-filtering to allow only PDFs and text files to be uploaded.
